Choosing Your Precious Metal
The metal of an engagement ring is more than a setting — it defines how the ring wears, how it ages, and how it is perceived over time. Each precious metal carries its own character, history, and practical qualities, and the right choice is as much about lifestyle and taste as it is about appearance.
I work primarily with 18K gold, platinum, and palladium, selecting each according to suitability, longevity, and the style of ring being created.
G
18k Solid Gold
Classic, luminous, and traditionally prized
Composed of 75% pure gold, 18K gold is the standard historically favoured in fine jewellery. Its higher gold content gives it a richer colour and a weight that feels substantial in the hand.
18K gold is particularly suited to traditional engagement ring settings, heirloom designs, and clients who value warmth, depth of colour, and long-term intrinsic value.
Available in white, yellow, and rose gold.
As with all precious metals, the right choice is guided by how the ring will be worn, the setting style, and the character you wish the piece to carry.

P
Platinum
Naturally white, enduring, and uncompromising
Platinum is a rare, dense precious metal valued for its strength and purity. Naturally white and resistant to tarnish, it does not require plating and develops a soft patina over time rather than wearing away.
Platinum is exceptionally well-suited to diamond engagement rings, particularly for classic solitaires and claw-set stones, where security and longevity are paramount.
